Nanxun: A Serene Blend of Chinese Tradition and European Elegance

Nanxun Ancient Town, located in Zhejiang Province, is a well-preserved water town blending traditional Chinese architecture with European influences. About 120 kilometers from Shanghai and 60 kilometers from Hangzhou, it offers a peaceful escape from the bustling metropolises nearby.

Dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), Nanxun flourished during the Ming and Qing Dynasties as a hub for silk production and trade. Wealthy merchants built grand mansions, combining classic Chinese elements with Western styles, reflecting their global connections. Highlights include the Little Lotus Garden, a tranquil retreat, and the Baijianlou, a series of historic residences along the canals.

Nanxun is famed for its unique black-awning boats, narrow stone bridges, and serene canals. Its culinary specialties include locally made rice wine, water shield soup, and sticky rice dumplings wrapped in lotus leaves. Visitors are also charmed by its relaxed pace and authentic cultural ambiance.
